Hawaii Part I

We just got back from a wonderful vacation in Hawaii where we had the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. I took a ton of pictures, so be prepared for an annoying amount below! I'm going to recap our trip in 2 posts so I don't leave out any details for our memory book.

Friday morning, we woke up bright and early to begin our journey to Hawaii. After 11+hours of flying, we land in Kauai, picked up our wrangler (Mike was in heaven) and drove the 40 minutes to our hotel in Princeville. When we pulled into the hotel, we were greeted with champagne, lei's, bottled water and escorted to registration. The bellhop gave us a tutorial about the hotel and led us to our room. I was blown away when we walked in...the room was huge and gorgeous! Mike had arranged for fresh flowers, chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of wine. The wine was from 2007 which Mike reminded me was the year we met for the first time- so sweet!! After a few pictures, I was ready to crawl in bed and get some sleep. The morning came quickly and I was awake at 5:30am asking Mike if we could go watch the sunrise. We got dressed, made coffee and walked along the beach enjoying the quiet morning.
We then put on our hiking clothes and headed to Queens Bath which a few friends
recommended. After exploring Queens Bath and trying not to get pulled out to sea, we headed into the town of Hanalei to experience the local Farmer's Market. We sampled lots of local fruits & favorites and managed to buy some treats of our own. By that time, we were ready to head back to the hotel, eat lunch and relax on the beach for the day.

Sunday we were up before the birds again so we could start officially celebrating our ONE year anniversary! We thought about running in our "race to the altar" shirts, but decided we were lazy and went for a bike ride instead. We rocked those beach cruisers for a good 6 miles before I decided it was time for coffee. The rest of the day was spent soaking up the sun and making friends by the pool. We got dolled up that evening to head to dinner at a local favorite, The Hanalei Dolphin Restaurant. We spent the evening reminiscing about our wedding, the past year and making new goals for this next year of marriage.

Monday morning we decided to see the whole island and boy did we ever! We rode with the top down on the jeep and I could not wipe the smile off Mike's face the entire day. (I have a feeling we might be the proud owners of another wrangler very soon) We explored the Waimea Canyon (the grand canyon of the pacific), ate lunch and shopped around Koloa, explored a few different beaches on the south and east shores, then headed back to the hotel for the evening. Since we are such an exciting couple, we decided to order pizza and a movie! As a side note- we met a couple at the Waimea Canyon and they were celebrating their 48th wedding anniversary. We shared the same anniversary and they were gracious enough to give us some great marriage advice. They were so fun and full of life...we were tempted to jump in their car and spend the rest of the trip together.Stay tuned for part II soon...and another obnoxious amount of pictures!

The scenery is, of course, UNBELIEVEABLE! Looks like a postcard!

Btw, I think you are the only person who goes to Hawaii and finds a Farmer's Market. Hello Rick Jr
